Overview

The Body Tags section controls the format of tags included in Body-type Tag Groups.

Properties

Detail Format

The Detail Format pull-down menu controls whether person page tag entries show Raw Data or use the sentence to format the text for a tag. The default value is Use Sentence.

Add Parent Sentence

When Add Parent Sentence is checked, Second Site will add a tag that identifies the parents of the current subject. The tag will sort one day after the primary birth date. The usual result is that the parent tag appears immediately after the birth tag. The default is unchecked. You may want to check it if you are using the Narrative Format.

Show Tag Label

The Show Tag Label pull-down menu controls whether the tag label appears in Formats that include the tag label in the output. The choices are "Always", "BMDB Only", and "Never". The default value is "Always".

Show Principal Role Name

The Show Principal Role Name pull-down menu controls whether the role name of a principal appears with the tag label in Formats that include the tag label in the output. The choices are "Always", "BMDB Only", and "Never". The default value is "Never".

If the role name is "Principal", the role name is not shown even when Show Principal Role Name is set to "Always" or "BMDB Only".

Show Witness Role Name

The Show Witness Role Name pull-down menu controls whether the role name of a witness appears with the tag label in Formats that include the tag label in the output. The choices are "Always", "BMDB Only", and "Never". The default value is "Always".

Sentence Ending Parenthesis

The Sentence Ending Parenthesis property influences where a period is placed when sentence output ends with a right-parenthesis. The choices are "Period Before" and "Period After". The default is "Period Before".

Here are examples showing various input examples including a superscript "1" indicating where citation references, if any, would be placed.

# Choice Sentence Output Second Site Output
1 Before (No period) (No period.)1
2 After (No period) (No period).1
3 Before (A period after). (A period after).1
4 After (A period after). (A period after).1
5 Before (A period before.) (A period before.)1
6 After (A period before.) (A period before.)1

In most cases, and as shown above, Second Site will detect that a period exists right before or right after a parenthesis and will not add an additional period regardless of how the property is set. However, formatting codes and other invisible characters may prevent Second Site from detecting the period, and the results may vary from what is shown above. Placing the period outside the formatting codes will produce more predictable results.

The Sentence Ending Parenthesis property does not apply to source template formatting. Second Site uses "Period After" when formatting sources and citations.
